STUDENTS' ACTIVITIES Baluchistan Relief Activities
Students from the Advanced Diploma in Business Management Program collected cash and goods worth Rs 250,000 for the Baluchistan earthquake victims. Ahmed Arbani, Ali Hasan, Haris Naeem, Danish Rafiq, and Muzzamil Ismail personally took all goods to Ziarat and distributed them through a local NGO.
The Rotaract Club of SZABIST also organized a fund collection drive, and distributed these goods through the Rotary Metropolitan.
Night Hawk: SZABIST Astronomy Society
Abubaker Shekhani, Munira Sultan, Ammar Islam and Kayras Homi (BSC, Class of 2010) and Khalid Marwat (EMBA, Class of 2009) launched the Astronomy Society, Night Hawk. On the launch evening, participants were introduced to the objectives and purpose of the society, and later a sky watch session, using an 8-inch Schmidt Cassegrain and a Bi-scope was arranged at the campus roof top that provided first hand view and information on night sky and heavenly bodies. All activities of the Night Hawk will be media partnered through HBO.
Software Exhibition and Competition 2008
SZABIST Computing Society organized a Software and Computer Exhibition with a view to promote technical education in all Computing, Information Technology, Software Engineering, Gaming and Telecommunication through the creation and development of interactive websites and software. 11 high school, college and university students participated in the day long activity. The Usman Institute of Technology team won the first prize in the software category, followed by PAF-KIET and Asia Pacific Institute of Information Technology. Mohammed Ali Jinnah won the website competition in the University category, followed by Usman Institute of Technology; while in the schools category, Jaffer Public school was declared the winners, followed by PECHS Girls School. .
Gamer's Edge
The SZABIST ACM Chapter organized a gaming competition, the Gamer's Edge. Round matches continued for a week after which the winners were declared. The WMafia team of Usman Shahid, Fahad Ali, Zain Zaman, Bilal Samana and Owais Malik (BBA, Class of 2010) and Ace team of Abid Ali, Aryan, Asad Ali, Hina Shah and Shoaib (BSC, Class of 2010) won the counter strike while Imran Hashmi (BSC, Class of 2011) and Zulfikar Memon (BSC, Class of 2010) won the 'Need for Speed'.
Inter University Bowling Tournament
The SZABIST Computing Society organized a bowling tournament at the Arena Club. Participants included students from SZABIST, FAST, CBM, IBA, Iqra, Bahria, Greenwich, Tabanis, MAJU, BizTek, PAFKIET, Indus Valley, Commecs and AIFD. In the Opens Single category, the first, second and third prizes were awarded to Umair Arshad (CBM), Fazil Manya (IBA) and Umer Salim (Iqra University). In the Open Singles Women’s category, Saba Ali (DUHS) won the first prize while Sidra Salman (SZABIST) was the runner up. Team CBM (Umair Arshad and Bilal Saud) won the first prize in the Team Tournament category, while Team IBA (Fazil Manya and Anas Manya) were declared runner up. Umair Arshad (CBM) won the prize for the Top Scorer of the event.
