Malir campus of SZABIST

The Malir campus of SZABIST is currently under development on a 300 acre site in Malir district, on the link road connecting the Karachi-Hyderabad Superhighway and the Karachi-Thatta National Highway. It is 20 km from the Karachi Toll Plaza and 36 km from Karachi Airport. The site is adjacent to the newly constructed Quaid-e-Azam Public School, a modern residential school built on 200 acres, and close to a number of upcoming prestigious institution on the link road. The present construction plan includes Academic and Administrative Blocks, Girls and Boys Hostels, Staff Colony and Recreational Facilities like Swimming Pool, Golf Course, Horse Riding, etc. Bus facilities will also be available for staff and students.

Graduate education in the following faculties, which are important for the scientific and socio-economic development of Pakistan, and which are presently offered only on a limited scale in our country, would be offered at the SZABIST main campus when completed:

  • Management Sciences (Management, Marketing, Finance and Management Information Systems)

  • Computer Sciences (Software Engineering, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence/Robotics, and Computer-Aided Design)

  • Electrical Engineering (Solid State/Solar, Communication and Power)

  • Biochemical Engineering (Agrochemical and Pharmaceutical)

  • Bio genetic Engineering (Plant Genetics and Animal Genetics)

  • Food Sciences and Technology

  • Aqua culture and Agriculture Sciences

In addition to the academic faculties, a Software Technology Park and a Technology Development Center to incubate the growth of high-tech industries for the economic and industrial development of Pakistan will also be established at the Institute at Malir.

The site of SZABIST at Malir is close to the industrial zones in Karachi and Malir districts (Steel Mill, Machine Tool Factory, Export Processing Zone, Nooriabad, the Port Qasim Industrial Zone and the proposed BOI Electronics City), as well as to the large agricultural and aqua cultural bases in Thatta and Dadu districts. The Institute also has easy access to the outside world through the Karachi International Airport (a 30 minute drive) and Port Qasim.

It is projected that the SZABIST would trigger the growth of high-tech industries in its vicinity within the next five to ten years, ultimately leading to the development of the first 'science city' in Pakistan, ('Zulfikarabad'), and attracting foreign and local investments worth billion of dollars   in the early part of the 21st century.
